TIPS on Flights:

Our favourite airline is Monarch and favourite airport is Granada. Unfortunately Monarch no longer fly to Granada! If booking flights with a credit (not debit) card your payments should be covered, also check your holiday insurance.

Beware: many of the budget airlines now charge extra for checked-in suitcases,etc. BA is worth a comparison as they quote an all inclusive price.

If booking with EasyJet, Ryanair,etc it’s worth considering booking the express boarding option, otherwise it’s sharpest elbows first!

Almeria airport may be also be worth a try if you’re after cheap flights( 1hr 50 mins drive), tho’ we have not used it. For example: Monarch, EasyJet & Ryanair fly there.

Drive-time to Almunecar is about 50 mins.

Car Hire

You will really need to hire a car, either at the airport or when you get to Almunecar. This can cost less than you might think, especially low season.

We have found www.carjet.co.uk to be very good- they act as a clearing house for all the big firms and cover Malaga & Granada airports. They quote an all inclusive rate and usually link you to Crown Car Hire. At Malaga they are ‘on airport’ and at Granada they provide a shuttle bus. You can also arrange to take an airport transfer (see below) and pick up your car in Almunecar.

TIP: Car hire queues can be long in high season, so either 1 of you go straight ahead into the car queue on arrival, or choose the Pay on Arrival option and shop around when you get there.
